Youth Rock Band

Age 10-18

Youth Rock Band participants are grouped according to age, instrumentation, and playing experience and guided through weekly rehearsals by an expert faculty coach. By the end of each semester, participants will have the opportunity to perform live on stage. Repertoire covers everything from iconic classic rock to current pop music, taking into account students’ interests and requests. Open to Ages 10 - 18, generally with at least two years of private instrumental or vocal study.

Our ensembles are designed to help musicians improve their genre knowledge and playing ability, while also providing opportunities to perform at Brookline Music School and other venues. You'll learn from your faculty coach and fellow musicians in a supportive environment. Whether you come with friends or on your own, you're sure to meet new people who share your passion for music. We're happy to welcome pre-formed groups and individuals who are ready to make the switch from solo play to group performances. Join us and discover the joy of making music together!

It is recommended that students have two years of study with their preferred instrument or a similar level of proficiency, including reading music, or approval from the instructor.

Please note: Rock Bands have rolling registration. Dates and times vary: After registering online, Russ Gershon, BMS Jazz/Rock Coordinator, will contact you to confirm an available time slot that will become your regularly scheduled time.

About

Performing Ensembles

Experience the thrill of team music-making!

Joining a performing ensemble is among the most exciting ways to explore music of any genre in greater depth and to share the experience with fellow musicians in a social, collaborative setting. BMS chamber, jazz, and rock ensembles for youth and adults offer weekly or bi-weekly rehearsals and multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Small ensemble playing further reinforces the technical and musical skills aspiring musicians need for solo performing and large band or orchestra participation.

Placement in an ensemble is based on an informal placement audition. Each group will receive weekly coaching from one of our distinguished faculty members.
