A performance sample is a 32 bar vocal sample that best demonstrates your/the student's artistry. These samples are used for placement purposes only. Sheet music, practice and recording tracks provided below.

Broadway at Brookline will engage students, ages 12-16, of all skill levels, exploring their creativity through acting, singing & movement. Students will learn and experience all aspects of the theatre through engaging workshops, private and small group coaching, solo & ensemble singing, character development in monologue, and song analysis, audition preparation, as well as training in yoga & Alexander Technique. There will be a special focus on building communication, teamwork, and boosting self-confidence, all in a positive and, most of all, fun environment! The program includes recording a mock audition with both a 32-bar cut and a 60-second monologue and culminates with a recorded mock audition & cabaret showcase performance. This one week class is offered August 5-9.

Each day includes a lunch break (students need to bring a bagged lunch) and recreational time.

We’re so looking forward to working with you this summer! Please read these instructions which detail how to record & submit your placement video.

This is not an audition, but is for our faculty to utilize in assigning students to small groups, specific repertoire for the group & casting solos. Our goal is to give everyone the opportunity to shine!

Please record a video of you performing a 32 bar cut of a musical theater or Disney song

The submission due date for the video is June 15th. Below are 3 recommendations of songs you may choose to sing, or feel free to offer a different piece of your choosing. The song should be 32 measures, 1 min or less.

Please record this video using 2 different devices - one to record video, such as a phone or tablet, and another to play the backing track acoustically, perhaps with an external speaker to boost/balance the volume.

Our recommendations are "Colors of the Wind" from Disney’s Pocahontas, "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music, and "When I Grow Up" from Matilda. Use the sheet music & original track for practice, memorize the cut, and then use the instrumental track for your recording. Submit your recording using this form. Only faculty will be able to view your performance sample.

Colors of the Wind
, beginning on page 18 at “You think you own”, and ending on page 20 at “colors of the wind”.

My Favorite Things

We can’t wait to hear you, and dive in together in a fun filled, intensive workshop in Broadway at Brookline this August!

Sincerely,
