Adult chamber music groups rehearse the repertoire of the classical tradition from the early baroque to contemporary periods. Rehearsals emphasize listening skills, musical communication, stylistic interpretation, and balance of texture.

Our comprehensive adult chamber music program includes small-group coaching by our outstanding BMS chamber music faculty, plus two to three events per term. Our popular chamber reading parties - a great way to play chamber music and socialize with like-minded musicians - set the stage for our expanded offerings. Additional special programming may include chamber music performance workshops for groups, performances and/or presentations by our chamber faculty, or a special guest master class. See the Chamber Music Event Schedule for details.

Please note: Adult groups are open to instrumentalists 18 years or older of all levels, generally after completing a minimum of 2 years of private instrument study and having attained basic music literacy. Spring 2024 Adult Chamber Music Ensembles will receive either 14 weeks (full-time) or 8 weeks (part-time) of coaching, depending on which option you select when registering below.

Fall term chamber music registration is now closed. 

Term II auditions for new participants will take place on Tuesday, January 23.

Fees & Aid

  • There is a once-yearly non-refundable $45 registration fee per family.
  • There is a $20 fee per term for payment plans.
  • No registration fee is charged for summer study.
BMS is committed to removing any financial barriers. Tuition assistance is available.

Performing Ensembles

Experience the thrill of team music-making!

Joining a performing ensemble is among the most exciting ways to explore music of any genre in greater depth and to share the experience with fellow musicians in a social, collaborative setting. BMS chamber, jazz, and rock ensembles for youth and adults offer weekly or bi-weekly rehearsals and multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Small ensemble playing further reinforces the technical and musical skills aspiring musicians need for solo performing and large band or orchestra participation. 

Placement in an ensemble is based on an informal placement audition. Each group will receive weekly coaching from one of our distinguished faculty members.
