Learn the most popular melodies in jazz, and how to improvise on them. This basic repertoire is the common language of all jazz players, the music that will enable you to get together and start making music instantly. Playing in a BMS recital and other off-campus performances is great preparation for joining a high school jazz band or creating a group of your own.
It is recommended that students have studied their instrument for two or more years OR have achieved an equivalent level of proficiency with the ability to read music OR have received permission from the instructor
Please note: Ensembles have rolling registration. Dates and times vary: after registering online, Russ Gershon, BMS Jazz/Rock Coordinator, will contact you to confirm an available time slot that will become your regularly scheduled time.
The goal of all ensembles is for players to improve their understanding of their preferred genres and playing skills, and to have the opportunity to perform at Brookline Music School and off-campus locations. You'll learn from your faculty coach and each other. Enroll with friends, or come meet new friends! We welcome pre-formed groups as well as those making the transition from playing alone to playing as a member of a group. Experience the skill and enjoyment of creating music together!
