Dive into an in-depth exploration of jazz standards and the essential art of improvisation. This foundational repertoire is the shared language of jazz musicians of all levels, facilitating both instant collaboration for musicians down the road, and the ability for off-the-cuff individual creativity. This group provides excellent preparation or concurrent practice for students joining a middle-high school jazz band. Open to ages 10-18, with at least two years of private instrumental or vocal study.
Our ensembles are designed to help musicians improve their genre knowledge and playing ability while also providing opportunities to perform at Brookline Music School and other venues. You'll learn from your faculty coach and fellow musicians in a supportive environment. Whether you come with friends or on your own, you're sure to meet new people who share your passion for music. We're happy to welcome pre-formed groups and individuals who are ready to make the switch from solo play to group performances. Join us and discover the joy of making music together!
It is recommended that students have two years of study with their preferred instrument or a similar level of proficiency, including reading music, or approval from the instructor.
Please note: Ensembles have rolling registration. Dates and times vary: After registering online, Russ Gershon, BMS Jazz/Rock Coordinator, will contact you to confirm an available time slot that will become your regularly scheduled time.
