Teaching Philosophy

I love being around drums and strive to spread the joy I have of the instrument to my students. I believe the most beautiful part of drumming (and life) is that nothing can ever be mastered; there’s always a deeper place to go. Whether it’s related to timing, technique, groove, independence, or rudiments — I am always interested in finding ways to motivate each student to improve their skills and strengthen their relationship with the drums. I think it’s important for drummers to build a strong foundation since we serve as the literal foundation of our ensemble or band. We must also be able to adapt our drum sound to various playing situations. When most people think of drums, they picture something loud and raucous. While this may sometimes be the case, drums can also be played very softly and expressively. As drummers, we can transform a song's mood by making these dynamic choices. At the end of the day, my goal is that my students will be able to express themselves and have a lifetime of fun on the drums!

Isaac has over a decade of performing experience, spanning many genres, including rock, blues, country, funk, jazz, and gospel. In his teens, Isaac was a member of several rock/punk bands performing in New England. When he was 19, he started touring the United States, playing at venues in cities like New York, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, and Jacksonville. He performed in various jazz bands and combos during college and in jazz clubs around New England. Today, Isaac has established himself as one of the most in-demand, up-and-coming working drummers in the Boston area. He is a member of Clique, one of Boston’s premier wedding bands, playing popular music from every decade from the 1950s to the 2020s. He is also a member of the indie-punk rock band The Fairview. Isaac’s ability to learn many songs quickly has allowed him to carve out a niche working as both a first-call and fill-in drummer for various singer-songwriters performing at local venues.
