Teaching Philosophy

My primary goal as a teacher is to provide students with the tools they need to achieve a thorough understanding of music and their instrument. To me, music is all about connections: from one note to another, within a chord progression, or between performers and their audience. I strive to demonstrate to my students how all the concepts we study are interconnected and how these tools can be employed in musical ways beyond the confines of the practice room. When I teach, I like to envision musical concepts as building blocks that can be combined in various ways, giving students a broad and flexible perspective on the vast possibilities within music. Given the diverse nature of music, I always tailor my lessons to the styles that my students enjoy, teaching them the fundamental principles of music and guitar, and then applying these principles to the music that inspires and resonates with them.
