Teaching Philosophy

Alessandro is passionate about sharing the joy of music through the oboe to students from all walks of life, tailoring each learning style based on the student's experience, needs, and musical interests. Lessons will typically range from focusing on the fundamentals of long tones and scales, working through etudes and standard solo oboe or orchestral repertoire, as well as reed making.

Teaching Biography

Boston-based oboist Alessandro Cirafici joined the Brookline Music School as Oboe Faculty in January 2022. An avid oboe teacher and reed making instructor, Alessandro has several years experience teaching oboists of all ages and levels throughout the Greater Boston area. Alessandro has also previously coached sectionals and chamber music with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and worked with high school oboists at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School.

Performance Biography

Alessandro Cirafici is the second oboist of the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine, a position he has held since July 2022. An active freelancer, he has both performed and recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra on the Deutsche Grammophon label, and has also appeared with the Boston Pops, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic, Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, New Bedford Symphony, and Phoenix Chamber Orchestra. As the 2021 Oboe Fellow at Tanglewood Music Center, Alessandro performed under the batons of Andris Nelsons, Herbert Blomstedt, Alan Gilbert, Stefan Asbury and more. Alessandro has also enjoyed performing internationally in China, Cuba, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Russia, and the Czech Republic. His primary teachers include John Ferrillo and Elaine Douvas, with additional instructions from Anne Gabriele, Mark McEwen, Richard D’Alessio, and Alexandra Knoll.
