Join us for the season opener of the Brookline Music School 2021-2022 Faculty Artist Series performed by three BMS faculty members: Lindsay Albert (piano), Sasha Callahan (violin) and Leo Eguchi (cello). This program will feature music by both Robert and Clara Schumann at the height of the romantic period of classical music. Selections include Robert Schumann's first piano trio in D Minor, Clara Schumann's gorgeous Romances for violin and piano, and a selection of lieder, arranged for cello and piano. The song repertoire will feature the romantic and lyrical compositions from the year of 1840, the year of romance and song: Widmung, Liebst du um Schönheit, and other lieder.
Both Clara and Robert Schumann expanded the virtuosity and reach of the piano repertoire, creating rhapsodic, voluptuous textures and sweeping melodic lines. The selections of piano chamber music showcase these qualities and perhaps give a small window into this remarkable marriage.
A reception will follow.
