A virtual workshop in which budding chamber musicians will explore new repertoire as a team, and closely examine the narrative and illustrative powers of musical gestures and phrases. Musical scavenger hunts, storyboards, and technique games will introduce students to the broader sonic pallet of their instrument and their correlating symbols in the score. With these new sounds in hand, students will work to construct and remotely live-perform a creative musical story of conversing parts and colorful characters, inspired by sights and sounds of the natural world. Students will also assemble a video project of a collaborative chamber work using multi-track mixing technology. Workshop time will be divided between group sharing and discussion, and focused individual and partnered work in virtual “break-out” rooms.
