EnsembleFest


Students explore ensemble playing of varied styles, from classical chamber music to jazz improvisation. Ensemble rehearsals, improvisation, team building exercises, and music history workshops will be incorporated into the daily schedule. This course is designed for intermediate to advanced students who have a minimum of two years private instruction.

Session I & II Afternoons: Jazz & Improv Lab

Students delve into the colorful world of improvisation, jazz, and the blues. Activities will include improvisation games, an original group composition, and team jazz arrangement of popular melodies. The week will end with a performance of standard and original tunes.

Session II Mornings: Chamber Music Workshop

Focusing on the rich tradition of classical chamber music, students will study a variety of repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary. Students will be assigned to level-appropriate groups to rehearse and perform at the week’s end.

Audition

To ensure that students are placed with an appropriate group, a placement audition is required for the Morning Chamber Music Workshop. Enrollment for the Afternoon jazz workshop is open to any students 10 and up who’ve had at least 2 years private instruction.

Summer at Brookline Music School

Summer is a great time to delve deeper in to musical study, or begin exploring a musical instrument. During the summer, scheduling for private lessons and chamber music ensembles is flexible. Additionally, many of our programs offer multiple sessions and options for full-day or half-day making it easy to find a class that fits your schedule.

Brookline Music School is located right off of Route 9 on Kennard Road in Brookline. Most of our summer programs take place at the Kennard House, which is easily accessible by car, public transportation, bike, or by foot.
