Youth Chamber Music Ensembles

Chamber music groups rehearse repertoire of the classical tradition from the early baroque to contemporary periods. Groups are open to instrumentalists at an intermediate level and above, and emphasize listening skills, communication, and balance of texture. For students new to ensemble playing, our Dynamic Duos program provides a comfortable first step, pairing students of comparable level, and coordinating shared lesson time in lieu of additional coachings. Chamber music groups and duos perform regularly in both school-wide recitals and designated chamber concerts each semester.

Chamber music placement is based on age and approximate level of players. A short placement audition with the Chamber Music Coordinator is required for new participants.

To get started, email Chamber Coordinator Aimee Tsuchiya at or contact the office for more details.

Ensembles Classes

Performing ensembles at Brookline Music School offer students the unique chance to work together in a social, collaborative atmosphere to sharpen their musical skills and have fun! Ensemble playing requires members to listen carefully to themselves and each other, building a strong sense of rhythm and meter, and a keen ear for intonation, articulation, and dynamics. Students of classical chamber music will be exposed to new composers, forms, and styles that will expand their musical imagination and knowledge. Jazz, pop, and rock ensembles allow endless group combinations and stylistic possibilities for instrumentalists and singers alike.

Placement in an ensemble is based off of an informal placement audition. Each group will receive a weekly coaching with one of our distinguished faculty members.
