2021-2022 School Year

Teaching Artist, Voice

Job Description

Brookline Music School (BMS) seeks a Teaching Artist in VOICE to begin in September 2021. Applicants must be comfortable teaching private students of varied abilities, experience levels, and goals, ranging in age from 11 years to adults, as well as a group class for students 7 to 10 years of age. Teaching takes place at our main Kennard House location in Brookline, with additional after-school instruction in various Brookline Public School locations. Saturday or Sunday availability during the school year required.

Job Qualifications

The successful applicant will be passionate and committed to growing and sustaining a long-term voice studio on 2 to 3 weekly teaching days through goal-oriented pedagogy and commitment to student performance opportunities. Broad familiarity and comfort with musical theater repertoire is highly valued, as well as a strong foundation in vocal technique, and expertise with either classical or jazz vocal styles. Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to represent the school to our students and their families.

An undergraduate degree in vocal performance or musical theatre is required; a graduate degree or the equivalent—demonstrated through teaching and performing experience—is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess at least basic piano skills, for accompanying students in lessons, though a staff accompanist is provided for recitals.

How To Apply

Applicants should send a cover letter, résumé, and a list of references with email and phone contact information to info@bmsmusic.org with the subject line: “Teaching Artist, Voice.” References should include two current or recent students (or parents thereof). Candidates should be prepared to give a teaching demonstration with a BMS student, and to perform a short repertoire selection. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. No phone calls please.
