Orchestra Skills for String Players is the perfect class for young string players new to ensemble-playing and beginning or soon to begin playing in a youth orchestra.
This class focuses on developing important orchestra-playing skills, including:
- Interpreting and following a conductor
- Matching bowings, articulations, and tone quality
- Identifying melody versus accompaniment
- Communicating with fellow players using eye contact and breath phrasing
Students will have the chance to workshop solo pieces relevant to class topics, and to prepare ensemble selections for performance at the semester’s end.
Prerequisites: 1 year of private lessons on violin, viola, cello, or upright bass.
