Welcome Back Week!Category: BMS NEWS Friday, September 6th, 2013
Another summer has flown by and we find the school year and music lessons rushing upon us! This is such an exciting time of year, and we’re all delighted to welcome you back to the Brookline Music School.
As you begin the fall semester, we want to provide special attention to the needs of our families and students as they began their music instruction. We have designated the first week of the semester “Welcome Back Week,” and have planned additional activities to make the transition into fall semester as smooth and productive as possible.
Faculty Communications to Families
As in prior years, our faculty members will be in direct contact with all students/families who study in their studios before lessons begin. These communications may be in the form of emails, phone calls or personal discussions at the first lesson. However the intention is to make sure that all families are up-to-date with school policies, instructional goals for the coming year, next steps in the musical journey for the students, and any studio policies or plans that may be unique to that faculty member.
During the first week of classes and lessons, staff members will be present throughout the afternoon and evening to answer questions and assist in any way possible. Particularly the Executive Director and the Director of Education and Admissions will be present in the building to talk with families and students about any concerns or issues you may have. It’ll be a great opportunity for many of us to finally meet each other.
If you have a desire to meet personally in a more private venue with the Director of Education and Admissions, Executive Director or any of our program coordinators, please feel free to call the office directly and request a meeting. Some time has been reserved in our schedules to accommodate meetings.
Public Seminar – “The Music Education Continuum”
The Director of Education and Admissions and Executive Director will be hosting a free and open-to-the-pubic seminar on “The Music Education Continuum.”
Join us on: Sunday, September 15, 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM
This informative discussion will focus on the continuum of education and music from birth through adulthood with particular attention to early childhood development in music and the next steps in readiness for music instruction, how to choose an instrument, practice expectations, and moving into the intermediate and advanced levels musically.
Open House and Instrument Petting Zoo
Welcome back week will culminate in an open house instrument petting zoo on Sunday, September 15 from 10 AM until 3 PM.
The schedule is:
10 AM to 12 PM – demonstrations of early childhood music, Dalcroze Eurhythmics and beginning piano classes
1 PM to 3 PM – continuing demonstrations of various classes and an instrument petting zoo on the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, piano, drums, trumpet, trombone and French horn.
We sincerely hope you’ll find time to join us at one of these events, and if not, please let us know how we might better serve your needs and the needs of the community. If you are returning student, we are delighted to welcome you back to the Brookline Music School – and if you are new student, we are equally delighted that you have put your faith in us.
