Summer Flute Institute (NEW!)


This two-day intensive explores all things flute, offering varied workshops on topics from improvisation to auxiliary instruments (piccolo and alto flute); flute ensemble rehearsals with a final performance; and guest master classes with renowned flutist Keith Underwood. The Institute is open to intermediate and advanced flutists ages 10 to adult who have at least two years of private study.

Application Instructions:
All students wishing to attend the Institute and/or audition for the Keith Underwood master class* must submit an application.

Flutists will be assigned to the ensemble appropriate for their age and level of experience.

All applicants will be notified of their status within 3 business days of submission.

*Master Class Audition:
Master class participants will be selected by audition. Applicants wishing to be considered for the Keith Underwood master classes should submit an audio or video recording of one movement or piece from the standard flute repertoire to Anthea Kechley (info@bmsmusic.org) by June 30, 2018.

Those selected to perform will be placed in either the intermediate master class on August 23 at 1:00pm or the advanced master class on August 22 at 6:00pm, based upon their auditions.

Summer at Brookline Music School

Summer is a great time to delve deeper in to musical study, or begin exploring a musical instrument. During the summer, scheduling for private lessons and chamber music ensembles is flexible. Additionally, many of our programs offer multiple sessions and options for full-day or half-day making it easy to find a class that fits your schedule.

Brookline Music School is located right off of Route 9 on Kennard Road in Brookline. Most of our summer programs take place at the Kennard House, which is easily accessible by car, public transportation, bike, or by foot.
