Ages 9 and up
Brass includes the instruments of trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, and tuba, with the trumpet producing the highest sounds, and the tuba producing the lowest sounds.
Brass instruments all require physical size and stamina, so we do not recommend starting any of these before age 9 (sometimes a large 8 year old would be ready to start). If a student younger than 9 shows affinity for any of these instruments, we suggest starting with piano as a foundation instrument and letting them know that when they get a little older they can easily switch. If they particularly enjoy the feeling of producing sound by blowing air through an instrument, flute or recorder might be appealing alternatives as well.
