Policies

Student Absences

Students taking private lessons receive one excused absence per semester.  For weekday afternoon lessons or weekend lessons after 2:00pm, an absence is excused if the office or teacher is notified no later than 10:00am on the day of the missed lesson. In the case of weekend lessons scheduled before 2:00pm, the teacher must be directly notified of the absence by 9:00pm the previous night.  Excused absences will be made up at the end of the term.  If a student withdraws prior to the end of the term, he/she forfeits any makeups owed.  All teacher absences will be made up or a refund will be issued.  One snow day per term will be made up.  Missed group classes, including shared lessons or ensembles will not be made up unless the class is cancelled due to a teacher absence or one snow day.  Missed makeup lessons will not be made up.

Injuries

Please notify the office immediately of any injuries, which might affect lessons.  Partial refunds may be considered in cases of prolonged illness or injury.

Tardiness

Because of the faculty members’ full schedules, students who are late for a lesson cannot be guaranteed their full lesson time.  Faculty will wait ten minutes for a student, after which it becomes an unexcused absence.

Withdrawals and Refunds

For the fall term (Term I), private lessons for new and continuing students may be terminated for any reason before the fourth scheduled lesson; a refund will be issued for the remainder of tuition that has been paid.  Absence after the third lesson without notification does not release students from the obligation to pay for the semester.  Registration fee and payment plan fees are non-refundable.  There are no refunds for group classes, including shared lessons or ensembles once a term begins.

Students registered for private lessons, group classes and ensembles in Term I will automatically be re-enrolled for Term II (spring).  The withdrawal deadline for the spring term FOR STUDENTS CONTINUING FROM TERM I is January 7, 2017.  Please note that a student’s spot will not be held if payment is not received by the deadline.  If a student withdraws once lessons, group classes or ensembles for the term have started, no refund will be issued.  New students starting lessons in Term II, as well as continuing students making a teacher or instrument change, may withdraw for any reason before the fourth scheduled lesson and receive a prorated refund.

Delinquent Accounts

Brookline Music School reserves the right to suspend or discontinue instruction of any student who is delinquent in fulfilling financial obligations.  An additional billing charge of $15 will be added to overdue accounts.  Delinquent accounts referred for collection will be liable for all collection fees and costs.  There is a fee of $15 for any returned checks.

Cancellation of Classes/Ensembles

Brookline Music School reserves the right to cancel any group classes or ensembles due to insufficient enrollment.

Non-Discrimination Statement

Brookline Music School does not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, national origin, creed, age, physical or mental disability, religion, veteran status, ancestry, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic.

Brookline Music School Privacy Policy

We take your privacy seriously and will take all measures to protect your personal information.  Any personal information received will only be used to process your registration.  We will not sell or redistribute your information to anyone.

Photo/Video Policy

Brookline Music School may photograph/videotape lessons, group classes or events for educational purposes, website and publications.  If you do not wish your child or yourself to be photographed or videotaped, please check the appropriate box on the registration form, or submit a brief written statement to the office.

Policy for Participating in BMS Competitions

Students who participate in BMS competitions must be enrolled in a minimum of 30-minute lessons weekly for the full school year (Terms I and II).

Parking

Parking is not allowed in the Lincoln School traffic circle during public school hours (8:00am-3:30pm).  Street parking is available on Kennard Road, all adjacent streets and during non-school hours behind Lincoln School via Hedge Rd.  Parking is NOT allowed in the spaces behind the brick wall next to Kennard House or on the inner circle at Lincoln School.

Summer Session Policies

Summer Payment, Withdrawal and Refunds

Payment in full is required at time of registration. There is a $25 withdrawal fee per class until May 14, after which there will be no refunds for summer programs or classes.

Cancellation of Classes/Ensembles

Brookline Music School reserves the right to cancel any class or ensemble due to insufficient enrollment.  Refunds will be issued in the event of a cancelled class.

Absences and Make-up Lessons (Summer Session)

There are no make-ups for classes or ensembles unless the cancellation is due to teacher absence.  For private lessons, excused absences may be made up at a time mutually convenient to the teacher and the student.  An absence is excused if the office and teacher are notified no later than 10:00am on the day of the lesson.  Any lesson missed due to teacher absence will be made up or a refund will be issued.

Snow Policy

Monday-Friday:

School Closure: If the Public Schools of Brookline are closed, Brookline Music School is also closed.  Please check for public school closings on TV Channels 5, 7, 25 and 56. You may also call the school and listen to our automated message or check our website, both of which will be updated in the event of a school closing.   

School Delays: The Public Schools of Brookline late starts do not affect Brookline Music School’s group classes or lessons.

Saturdays and Sundays:

School Closure: If there is a school-wide closing or an event cancellation, we will post cancellation information on TV Channels 5, 7, 25 and 56.  You may also call the school and listen to our automated message or check our website, both of which will be updated in the event of a school closing.

Storms during office hours: Please call the office for information or check the website.

Storms after the office has closed: Your teacher will contact you directly regarding lesson status.

Snow day makeups: ONE snow day per student, per semester will be made up.  If a group class or ensemble is cancelled due to snow, one makeup group class or ensemble will be offered at the end of the term.  Please note that snow days occur only when the school closes due to inclement weather.
