Ann Frechette, M.Ed., Ph.D., is founder and owner of the Sunshine Academy Early Education Centers in Brookline Massachusetts, a group of preschools serving 250 families. Before starting Sunshine Academy with her husband, Andrew Haber, she taught as Luce Professor of Asian Studies for ten years at the university level. She is the recipient of many fellowships and awards including a Fulbright Fellowship to Nepal, Freeman, Luce and Wenner-Gren Fellowships for research in China, a MacArthur Fellowship for Peace and Security, and a Mellon Fellowship. Among her many publications is a book based on her dissertation entitled Tibetans in Nepal: The Dynamics of International Assistance among a Community in Exile (Berghahn Books, 2002). Her research focuses on the dynamics of international funding for schools and cultural organizations. She has also served on the grant selection committee for the Social Science Research Council’s International Dissertation Fellowships Committee. Ann has three children who have taken classes at Brookline Music School. Ben Haber is a long-term piano student of Margaret Denton. Ann also sometimes plays the flute at the intermediary level.
