Instrument Petting Zoo
January 10, 2009

Brookline Music School's Instrument Petting Zoo on January 10th, proved to be a huge success! Almost 200 parents and children of all ages enjoyed trying out an assortment of musical instruments, including flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, stand up bass, cello, viola, violin, guitar, piano and drums. The event took place in the Bakalar Recital Hall and Studio A, packing the house for over three-hours. Faculty members Irina Chirkova, Russell Jewell, Chris Veilleux Scott Pittman and Nick Grondin demonstrated the proper use of each instrument, with the assistance of Executive Director, Valerie Nelson and Director of Operations, Frank Pesci. Children puffed their cheeks in anticipation of playing the wind instruments, while others tried their hands at the strings and continued to hammer on the drums and piano. Several instruments were larger than the children, which did not dissuade their curiosity or ability!

Sgt. Pepper Band performed at 21st Century Fund Gala
November 10, 2007

Arthur Segel, one of the founders of the Brookline High School 21st Century Fund, was this year’s Distinguished Alumnus honoree at the
21st Century Fund Gala.  Segel was honored on November 10, 2007 at the 7th annual event, held at Brookline High School.  The Gala is
the primary fundraiser for this nonprofit organization, which benefits hundreds of students each year. www.bhs21stcenturyfund.org.

Brookline Music School’s Sgt. Pepper Band performed live Beatles tunes as a special tribute to Arthur, a devout fan of the Fab Four.
This was a special honor for the School and for the band’s coordinator, John Purcell, who nurtured the music education of Arthur’s children
for many years. Purcell noted, “Of Arthur’s many accomplishments, sending such great kids out into the world must surely be one of his
proudest. We are thrilled to partner with the 21st Century Fund in his honor.” Students showcased Arthur’s favorite Beatles tunes, including
With a Little Help from my Friends, When I’m Sixty-Four and Imagine.
