Recitals, Workshops and Departmental Events
Please see below for a list of school-wide recitals, workshops and competitions.  If you or your child would like you play in a recital, please contact your teacher directly. Otherwise, contact Margaret Denton (ext. 243) or mdenton@bmsmusic.org.

Recital dates and times are changed and updated regularly, so please check back often.

Voice Open House with Senior District Choral Workshop

For high school vocal students who are trying out for the MMEA Senior District Music Festival.
Hosted by the Brookline Music School’s  Voice Department.

Experience the audition process in a supportive environment
Play your required solo, scales and sight reading pieces and receive valuable suggestions and feedback from our voice department.
Workshop covers presentation, expectations and tips on auditioning

Dynamic Duos Plus Recital - Sunday, February 12, 2012
String, Wind, Piano and Voice Students from 21 Different Studios!

Dynamic Duos is an opportunity for students to work and perform with each other, increasing their ensemble skills and musicality in a fun, social setting. All instruments are welcome and voices are welcome and will be placed into duos.

• Students sign up through their teachers by November 21st.To download a sign up sheet click here.
• Ensembles and pieces will be assigned in early December so that students may begin working on pieces in their lessons.
• Students will visit each other’s lessons or meet at another mutually agreeable time, beginning mid-January with an average of two meetings per ensemble.
• Two concerts are scheduled for February 12th at 12:00 and 1:30 at BMS. More concerts will be scheduled if necessary.

Studio Recitals
Student studio recitals are held monthly on Wednesdays and Sundays, with additional days and times at the end of each term. These recitals are typically a mix of instruments, ages, levels, and styles and are a great way for students to gain exposure to a variety of musical possibilities. Students are encouraged to play the same piece in more than one recital in order to gain confidence and comfort in performing.

Suzuki

EVERY CHILD CAN!  Introduction to the Suzuki Method
Sunday, January 8, 2012, 9:30am - 4:30pm

An introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this new course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. This course is required for all new Suzuki teachers, but open to prospective teachers, parents, administrators and all others interested in learning about Suzuki approach to education. It is not instrument-specific. There are no instrument proficiency requirements. No audition is required. For a brochure click here.
 

8TH ANNUAL SUZUKI FLUTE WORKSHOP 
Sunday, January 15 & Monday, January 16, 2012,  9:00am - 5:00pm   

This two-day workshop features a master class, group class and ensemble or reading class each day, and ends with an informal concert. Non-Suzuki flute students are welcome to join in the fun but should be familiar with some of the repertoire from the Suzuki Method. For a brochure click here.

2012 SUZUKI FLUTE TEACHER TRAINING:
Thursday, January 12 - Monday, January 16, 2012,  9:00am - 5:00pm

Over the course of five days, trainees will receive 15 hours of classroom time and eight hours of observation time, in conjunction with the 7th Annual Suzuki Flute Workshop. For a brochure click here.

Guitober Rocks Brookline Music School

The Brookline Music School's guitar faculty asked their students this fall: "What do you LOVE about guitar?" Nearly 80 students responded: "Let me show you!" Guitober Rocks Brookline Music School is a short film featuring the students and faculty of BMS’ guitar department, leading you on a journey as they explore their favorite six-stringed instrument. See students of all ages and levels show you why the guitar is so great.
